Spain offers one of the most diverse luxury family holiday propositions in Europe. From the glamour of Marbella's Golden Mile and the wild cliffs of Ibiza's north coast to the golf estates of Girona and the ancient fincas of Menorca, the country combines exceptional weather, outstanding food and some of the finest hotels in the Mediterranean.
At The Family Suite we curate the world's finest hotels for design-conscious families. Here is our expert edit of the Spanish properties we recommend most.
MARBELLA
Marbella remains the jewel of Spain's Costa del Sol, and with three outstanding properties in our collection it represents one of the strongest concentrations of luxury family hotel options anywhere in Europe.
Marbella Club Golden Mile, Marbella
Along Marbella's golden coastline, in the heart of the Golden Mile, Marbella Club stands as an icon of the city, blending family-friendly charm with the understated luxury and heritage that has defined the property since it first opened in the 1950s. A Leading Hotels of the World member and winner of Best Family Friendly Hotel at the Beyond Luxury Awards, the Marbella Club has a pedigree that is difficult to match anywhere on the Costa del Sol.
The hotel offers dedicated family rooms, family junior suites, family garden suites and family MC suites, alongside a well-established kids club, equestrian centre, golf, spa and one of the most celebrated beach clubs on the Marbella coastline. The warm, personal service and the sense of genuine heritage make this feel less like a hotel and more like a family home for the week.
The Family Suite says: The Marbella Club is the original Marbella luxury experience and still one of the best. For families who want heritage, warmth and a genuinely iconic address on the Golden Mile, this is the one.
Don Carlos Marbella Elviria, Marbella
Following an ambitious comprehensive renovation led by Selenta Group and redesigned by prestigious interior designer Jaime Beriestain, Don Carlos Marbella has reopened as a landmark five-star resort on the Costa del Sol, fusing timeless elegance and Andalusian heritage in a privileged beachfront location surrounded by 20,000 square metres of tropical gardens.
The resort features 308 rooms, suites and residences, a world-class spa with the Natura Bissé seal, the first Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre in Spain with nine courts, and four unique dining spaces including the iconic Nikki Beach Marbella beach club. The 24 private residences provide a particularly compelling option for families, offering generous space, light-filled interiors, sweeping terraces and a warm Andalusian character with direct access to pools.
The Family Suite says: The newly renovated Don Carlos Marbella is one of the most exciting hotel transformations in Spain in recent years. The Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre, the Nikki Beach Club, the tropical gardens and the beachfront setting combine to make this a genuinely exceptional family destination on the Costa del Sol.
Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella Golden Mile, Marbella
Opening in February 2025, Kimpton Los Monteros Marbella revives one of Spain's most distinguished hotels. Originally opened in 1962, Los Monteros set a benchmark in exceptional hospitality on the Costa del Sol, becoming the first hotel in Spain to receive a Michelin Star. Following an extensive renovation, the luxury lifestyle brand has reimagined its legacy, blending historic grandeur with contemporary, laid-back luxury.
The resort features 195 elegantly designed rooms including 67 suites, thoughtfully designed by Cristina Carulla's interior studio with natural lighting, vibrant prints and organic textures. Families benefit from duplex rooms with separate living areas, the exclusive La Cabane beach club by Dolce and Gabbana, and Michelin-starred dining by Executive Chef José Carlos García.
The Family Suite says: Kimpton Los Monteros is the most exciting new opening on the Marbella Golden Mile in a generation. The design quality, the Dolce and Gabbana beach club and the Michelin-starred dining make this an exceptional choice for families who want style and substance in equal measure.
IBIZA
Hacienda Na Xamena North Ibiza
Perched 180 metres above the Mediterranean on Ibiza's north coast, Hacienda Na Xamena is a whitewashed clifftop retreat in the heart of a protected natural park, offering unrivalled sea views, three swimming pools, a legendary spa with the Suspended Waterfalls Thalassotherapy Circuit, and a two Michelin-starred restaurant helmed by Fran López, the fourth youngest chef in the world to receive two Michelin stars.
The hotel offers specially designed family accommodation that can comfortably sleep four to five guests, described as very spacious and children-safe, with breathtaking sea views. Far removed from the nightlife and crowds of the island's south, this is the quieter, wilder and more authentic Ibiza that design-conscious families consistently fall in love with.
The Family Suite says: Hacienda Na Xamena is one of the most dramatic hotel settings in the Balearic Islands. The clifftop views, the Michelin-starred restaurant, the waterfall spa and the genuine sense of remoteness make this our strongest recommendation for families seeking a peaceful, design-led Ibiza that has nothing to do with the island's reputation for parties.
MALLORCA
Mallorca's luxury hotel scene has reached new heights in recent years, with the arrival of several exceptional new properties alongside long-established favourites. Our Mallorca collection spans golf estates, coastal retreats and historic fincas.
Kimpton Aysla Mallorca Santa Ponça, Mallorca
Historically it has not been easy to find a year-round hotel in Mallorca that is both kid-friendly and high design. That changed with the opening of Kimpton Aysla, part of IHG Hotels and Resorts and the first hotel in Spain for a brand that practically invented the boutique hotel. Upon entering guests are mesmerised by a gorgeous textural installation by Catalan artist Regina Gimenez, while reception staff enthral children by explaining the stone lizards hidden across the property as part of a scavenger hunt that keeps them engaged throughout the stay.
The hotel features 79 modern rooms, all with private terraces, alongside a 900 square metre spa offering exclusive treatments using CODAGE Paris products, a state-of-the-art gym, tennis courts adjacent to the Mallorca Country Club and Golf Santa Ponça just moments away. Interconnecting family rooms and a dedicated kids club make this one of the most thoughtfully configured family hotels on the island.
The Family Suite says: Kimpton Aysla is our recommendation for families who want year-round luxury in Mallorca without compromising on design or service. The scavenger hunt alone will keep children talking about this holiday for months.
Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra Calvià, Mallorca — Opening July 2026
Mandarin Oriental's first property in Mallorca, opening in July 2026 in Calvià near the elegant Puerto Portals, features 131 stylishly appointed rooms and suites with uninterrupted sea views, fragrant gardens and exclusive access to two secluded coves. The resort features six restaurants, a spa with nine treatment cabins, two outdoor pools, an indoor pool, a free kids club, a children's pool and a fitness centre.
Hand-placed stones throughout the property reflect local craftsmanship, while a palette of soft neutral tones coupled with natural materials and exquisite design details make each room a welcoming haven. The resort features 26 suites, nine intimate casitas, as well as 19 rooms and suites with plunge pools and three rooftop suites with private pools.
The Family Suite says: Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra is one of the most anticipated openings in Spain for 2026 and a property we have been watching closely since it was announced. The combination of Mandarin Oriental's legendary service standard, the Calvià coastal setting and the family-specific facilities makes this an immediate addition to our most recommended list.
Finca Banyols Alaró, Mallorca — Open late 2026
Hidden in the gentle hills of Alaró, surrounded by olive and citrus groves within the UNESCO-protected Serra de Tramuntana mountains, Finca Banyols is a 15th-century estate carefully restored to preserve its soul, featuring 35 rooms across the main house and outbuildings, two destination restaurants, a spa using local honey and olive oil from the estate's own beehives, and indoor and outdoor pools with majestic panoramic views of the Tramuntana.
Part of IHG's Vignette Collection and set across 250 acres, the estate focuses on elevating personalization with signature seasonal retreats spanning wellness, gastronomy and creative arts, all deeply rooted in the island's cultural and culinary traditions.
The Family Suite says: Finca Banyols is for the families who want the real Mallorca. Not the coast, not the marina, not the golf course, but the ancient, scented, sun-baked interior of an island that most visitors never discover. One of the most exciting new openings of 2026 and already one of our most distinctive Mallorca recommendations.
MENORCA
Menorca offers a very different proposition to its Balearic neighbours. Quieter, less developed and with a landscape protected by UNESCO Biosphere Reserve status, it is the ideal destination for families who want beauty, authenticity and genuine peace. Our two Menorca partners are both part of the Fontenille Collection, one of Europe's finest boutique hospitality groups.
Torre Vella Alaior, Menorca
Spread across 200 hectares of wild Menorcan countryside, Torre Vella is an iconic finca hotel that celebrates raw nature and the power of life itself. Behind sunlit stone walls, 17 rooms and suites are distributed between the main house, former barns and small detached houses in the countryside, several with private swimming pools. A certified organic vineyard, olive groves and a vegetable garden feed the estate's restaurant.
Torre Vella offers families an ideal setting to share authentic moments at the rhythm of the Menorcan island, with 200-hectare grounds stretching to the coast, a training circuit along cliff edges, a pool and alfresco spa treatments in a pretty farmyard setting. Guests also benefit from access to the spa and facilities at sister property Santa Ponsa, just eight minutes away.
The Family Suite says: Torre Vella is one of the most genuinely special small hotels in the Balearic Islands. The organic estate, the clifftop walks, the farm-to-table dining and the sense of being completely away from the world make it a truly restorative family experience. A Relais and Châteaux member and one of our most personal recommendations.
Santa Ponsa Alaior, Menorca
Santa Ponsa is the sister property to Torre Vella within the Fontenille Menorca collection, an 18th-century finca set within magical Moorish gardens, housing 22 rooms and suites with old-world charm and contemporary purity. Cement tiles, exposed beams, linen curtains and antique furniture evoke Menorcan authenticity, while an outdoor infinity pool overlooking the island's valleys and an extraordinary underground spa built into an ancient cistern complete an exceptional offering.
The spa features an indoor swimming pool, aquatic course, steam room, sauna and massage rooms, with Susanne Kaufmann's natural treatment protocols focusing on the benefits of plants and energy regeneration. Children's wellbeing is a priority at Santa Ponsa, with personalised welcomes for younger guests and natural, gentle treatments from Minois Paris, a brand specifically designed for sensitive children's skin.
The Family Suite says: Santa Ponsa is the most spa-focused of our two Menorca properties and particularly well suited to families where parents are looking for genuine restoration alongside a beautiful family experience. The underground spa alone is worth the trip.
GIRONA
Hotel Camiral Costa Brava, Girona
Set within 500 hectares of landscaped lawns and Mediterranean forests, just ten minutes from Girona Airport and an hour north of Barcelona, Hotel Camiral is the five-star hotel at the heart of PGA Camiral Golf and Wellness, future host of the 2031 Ryder Cup.
Designed by Spanish designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, the sleek contemporary exterior contrasts with richly textured interiors that blend modern aesthetics with natural furnishings and fabrics. For families, the resort offers a Little Concierge team, a dedicated kids club, two championship golf courses, a Wellness Centre blending ancient traditions with cryotherapy and photobiomodulation, five dining venues celebrating Catalan gastronomy, and easy access to Girona, widely considered Spain's foodie capital.
The Family Suite says: Hotel Camiral is our recommendation for multigenerational families where golf is part of the picture. The setting, the Ryder Cup pedigree, the exceptional wellness facilities and the easy access to both Girona and Barcelona make this one of the most complete family resort experiences in northern Spain.
ANDALUSIA
OKU Andalusia La Alcaidesa, near Sotogrande
Nestled between Sotogrande, San Roque and the Los Alcornocales nature reserve on a secluded stretch of beach with views of Gibraltar and the coast of Morocco beyond, OKU Andalusia opened in July 2025 as the first family-focused property in the OKU Hotels collection, spanning almost ten hectares of lush gardens with multiple infinity pools terraced on the hillside, a 2,000 square metre spa and four dining venues including a beachfront adults-only beach club.
OKU Andalusia's thoughtfully curated Kids Club and dynamic children's activity programme offer OKU-style experiences for younger guests, from tennis camps and water-based activities to creative workshops and local cultural discoveries rooted in Spanish finca life and discovery of the local land and ocean.
The Family Suite says: OKU Andalusia is one of the most exciting openings on the Costa del Sol in years. The barefoot luxury ethos, the extraordinary views toward Morocco, the infinity pools and the genuinely considered family programming make this a property that delivers something genuinely different to the typical Andalusian beach resort.
Finca La Bobadilla Sierra de Loja, between Málaga and Granada
In the heart of Andalusia, surrounded by rolling hills of ancient olive trees in the Sierra de Loja, Finca La Bobadilla is a luxury retreat covering more than 350 hectares, designed as a charming Andalusian village where 73 rooms and suites combine elegance, comfort and spectacular views of the landscape, and described by The Telegraph as one of the best rural hotels in Spain.
Facilities include a renowned spa, a kids club, horse riding along the estate's trails, and three distinctive restaurants including the Michelin-starred La Jara and the informal El Cortijo. Children have been known to particularly love encountering the estate's horses, donkeys and turtles, while parents appreciate the world-class spa and the genuinely tranquil setting that makes everything feel effortlessly unhurried.
A Leading Hotels of the World member and eco pioneer, Finca La Bobadilla was the first luxury hotel to use ultra-sustainable olive-stone biomass fuel as an energy source, reducing carbon emissions by 80 per cent and energy consumption by 45 per cent.
The Family Suite says: Finca La Bobadilla is our recommendation for families who want to experience the soul of Andalusia rather than its coastline. The estate, the horses, the Michelin-starred dining and the sense of complete immersion in the Andalusian countryside make this one of the most memorable family stays in our entire collection.
