Schloss Elmau

Bavaria, Germany

Where alpine stillness, cultural brilliance and family time meet in the Bavarian Alps

At a glance

Set 1,000 metres above sea level in the secluded Elmau Valley between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald, just south of Munich on the Austrian border, Schloss Elmau is a rare combination of luxury spa retreat and cultural hideaway. Built in 1916 and rebuilt in 2007 after a fire, the estate has twice hosted the G7 Summit and stages up to 200 concerts, readings and political debates each year in its legendary concert hall.

Comprising two distinct hotels under one resort, the historic Hideaway and the more spacious Retreat, the estate blends mountain wilderness, six spas, exceptional gastronomy and a globally respected cultural programme. Guests of either hotel can enjoy the full run of both, and it's a place where silence, nature and music coexist, and where family life feels both elevated and effortless.
