Mahali Mzuri

Maasai Mara, Kenya

Sir Richard Branson's intimate Kenyan safari camp, right in the path of the Great Migration

At a glance

Mahali Mzuri is Sir Richard Branson's luxury safari camp, perched on the edge of a lush valley within the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, one of the most biodiverse private conservancies in the Maasai Mara ecosystem. With just 12 tents opening onto panoramic views of the rolling plains, the camp is deliberately intimate, and the twice-daily game drives through 13,500 hectares of protected wilderness mean that extraordinary wildlife encounters come as standard. A breathtaking interior transformation, unveiled in June 2025, has brought contemporary African design throughout, with curated local art and intricate Maasai beadwork woven into every space.

This is not a resort with a packed activity schedule and a busy pool terrace. It is a genuine safari camp, unhurried and immersive, where the rhythm of the bush sets the pace. Families who travel to Mahali Mzuri do so for the landscape, the wildlife and the sense of privilege that comes with being this close to the wild. Children aged six and above may join game drives; those aged two and over are welcomed into the Kids' Club, which offers a range of curated, individually tailored activities. This is a camp that rewards the curious and the patient, and families who fit that description will find it deeply, lastingly memorable.

Dining for all ages

Dining at Mahali Mzuri is woven into the rhythm of the day rather than confined to a single restaurant. All meals and drinks are included, and the setting shifts constantly: a pre-dawn bite before the morning game drive, a full bush breakfast on the open plains as the conservancy stirs to life, lunch with panoramic views from camp, afternoon tea before the afternoon safari, sundowners on the hillside as the sky turns amber, and candlelit dinners beside the fire pit or under the stars. Private bush dinners, with a table set deep in the wilderness, are available for those who want the experience in its most unfiltered form.

  • Pan-African menus using fresh, locally grown and ethically sourced ingredients, with Kenyan influences and Swahili-inspired specialities alongside international dishes

  • All meals and drinks included in the nightly rate; honesty bar open at all times with signature safari cocktails available from the bar team

  • Children's menus prepared to individual tastes and dietary requirements; dietary needs accommodated throughout

Experiences for all ages

Mahali Mzuri's setting within a private conservancy means the experience goes beyond what a national park stay can offer. Game drives access land that few visitors ever reach.

  • Twice-daily game drives with expert guides through the Olare Motorogi Conservancy; children aged six and above are welcome to join, seated at the back of the vehicle with the guide

  • Hot air balloon rides over the Maasai Mara at sunrise, bookable on request (additional charge)

  • Community visits to get a sense of daily life in the Mara and the culture of the Maasai people

  • Kids' Club activities for children aged two and over: safari tracking treasure hunts, nature spotting walks around camp, outdoor games, kids' spa treatments and guide-led bush storytelling with milk and cookies

  • Infinity pool (12 metres) overlooking the valley plains

Wellness for parents

  • Nasaro Spa, whose name means "refuge" in the Maa language, set near the valley floor with views across the African bush

  • Signature treatments include the Nasaro Misuli deep tissue massage inspired by Maasai warrior traditions, the Soul of Africa full-body ritual combining exfoliation, body mask and nourishing oils, and the Enchirtt Hot Stone Massage using smooth river rocks

  • Further options include aromatherapy, reflexology, bespoke facials, and a full grooming and beauty menu

  • All treatments use D'VINE skincare products, handcrafted in Kenya from natural oils, butters and botanical extracts

  • Little Warriors spa treatment available: the Twiga Relaxing Massage (neck, shoulders and scalp, 30 minutes), with parental consent required

  • Gym equipment available within camp
