Lewa Wilderness

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Kenya

Where pioneering conservation, extraordinary wildlife and heartfelt family hospitality meet in northern Kenya

At a glance

One of Kenya’s original safari lodges, Lewa Wilderness has been family-run since 1972 and sits at the heart of the 62,000-acre Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is safari as it was meant to be: deeply personal, conservation-led and rooted in place.

With just nine cottages, exceptional access to wildlife and a remarkable range of activities beyond the traditional game drive, Lewa offers families an immersive safari experience that is as educational as it is unforgettable.

Why families love it

Outstanding wildlife viewing, including near-guaranteed sightings of black and white rhino

Children of all ages welcome, with no fixed age restrictions

Activities tailored to each family, not a rigid safari schedule

Horse riding, camel walks and farm visits alongside game drives

A warm, informal atmosphere that genuinely welcomes children

Strong conservation and community ethos families can engage with meaningfully

Where you'll stay

A school bag donation to local schools

For every family staying at Lewa Wilderness through The Family Suite, Lewa will donate a school bag to a child at one of their supported local schools, on your family’s behalf. Each bag contains essential learning materials — including textbooks, exercise books and stationery — helping to directly support education in the surrounding communities. The value of each bag is USD 30–35, and families are warmly encouraged to see the impact of this programme during their stay.
