Domaine de Murtoli

Corsica, France

A 2,500-hectare private estate in the wild south of Corsica, where 20 restored 17th-century bergeries, two five-star hotels, a Michelin-starred restaurant and a working organic farm offer a wholly different kind of family luxury

At a glance

Set between Sartène and Bonifacio on the wild southern tip of Corsica, Domaine de Murtoli defies definition. Behind an inconspicuous wrought iron gate, 2,500 hectares of unspoiled maquis, forest, meadows, creeks and private coastline gradually reveal themselves as something close to a private kingdom. This is a four-generation family estate at heart, and its soul is agricultural: the organic farm supplies olive oil, ewes' cheeses, free-range eggs, honey, estate gin and cattle-reared meat to all four of its restaurants. The luxury here is raw and spatial.

Guests choose between twenty restored 17th-century shepherd houses and villas scattered across the estate, each self-catered with a private pool, or one of two five-star hotels at the heart of the domain. Open April to December, Murtoli suits families who want genuine immersion in nature: a private beach, horseback riding through the Ortolo valley, golf on a wild links course and a Michelin-starred dinner as the sun drops behind the mountains. There is no permanent kids club or structured children's programme, though every October the estate dedicates a full week during the school half-term break to a themed family stay, with activities designed for both children and parents. The estate itself is the programme.

Why families love it

The largest villas sleep up to 16 guests, making Murtoli one of the great multi-generational estate destinations in France

A private guest-only beach with full service, kayaking, paddleboarding, traditional fisher's boat rides and sea fishing

The working organic farm is a genuine draw for children: tours of the olive groves, vegetable garden, cattle, ewes and beehives

Four restaurants from a casual beachside fisherman's hut to the Michelin-starred Table de la Ferme by Chef Laurent Renard

Horseback riding with Equestrian Farm Fior di Lezza: introductory lessons for children, half and full-day rides with a chef-cooked lunch for older riders

Botanical walks, geological tours, biking and coastal hikes from the estate door

Figari Airport is approximately 30 minutes away. As an alternative, Ajaccio airport is about 1h45 minutes away.

Where you'll stay

Distances between villas and restaurants vary; some properties are 15–30 minutes from the beach or restaurants by car, which is worth factoring into your choice.

Cots and highchairs available on request. All properties include Wi-Fi and daily maid service. Regarding Wi-Fi, please bear in mind that Murtoli is very remotely located and connection can sometimes be affected by external events. Nature reigns supreme here.
